Unconquered!
The Seminole Tribe is the only Native American Tribe never to have surrendered
to the U.S. Government!
When South
Florida tourism boomed in the 1920's, Seminoles capitalized by wrestling
alligators for money. The Seminole Tribe
of Florida entered into agreements with the US government in 1957
confirming their sovereignty over tribal lands and agreeing to compensation for
seized territory. In 1979, the Seminoles opened the first casino on Indian land,
ushering in what has become a multimillion-dollar industry. Today the Seminole
Hard Rock Casino is a thriving, fantastic, fun filled resort. The entire staff
at Rez Dog Clothing Company had an experience we will never forget. Thank you
for your outstanding hospitality in hosting the calendar shoot for the 2007
American Indian Beauties calendar.
www.seminolehardrock.com
The Seminole Tribe of Florida has a terrific website filled
with detailed history about the Tribe. Please visit their website to read up on
this fascinating group of American Indians. And check out the website of their
casino/hotel The Seminole Hard Rock Casino when planning your next vacation
getaway. Fun in the sun!
(We hope you enjoy these out-takes from our photo shoots. To see the real calendar pics, yep you
guessed it, buy the calendar!!!)

Approximately 300 years ago, the Houma Indians settled in
the central interior of Louisiana. In fact, it was the Houma
boundary mark after which the current capital city of Baton Rouge
(“red Stick”) was named. When settlers began to move into the Louisiana
Territory
, the Houmas began their 100-year migration to their current home along the
marshy, coastal flood plain of
Louisiana. The land was generally considered uninhabitable by settlers, however, the
Houmas were able to adapt and survive off the land as fisherman and trappers.
With the discovery of oil and gas on Tribal lands, Tribal members became very
vulnerable to land manipulation because they were a state recognized Tribe
consisting of approximately 16,000 Tribal members located primarily in six
parishes along coastal southeast Louisiana. Rez Dog would like to thank Brenda
Robichaux and the United Houma Nation Tribal Council. We would also like to
