A portion of the proceeds from this calendar sale will be going to a cancer research foundation in the name of our mother Rita Ann McLaughlin DeHaas (Miss Indian America 1955). It is to her memory we dedicate this calendar. After a 9-month model search, "Rez Dog Clothing Company," American Indian Apparel, chose 12 models for the Premiere Edition of "The Girls of Rez Dog Clothing Company 2003" calendar sponsored in part by the 7-Clans Casino - Otoe Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma. "It was so difficult for our panel of judges to choose just 12. We had nearly 100 beautiful Native American women submit their applications," says "Rez Dog’s" Mary DeHaas. Mary DeHaas is the co-producer of the calendar along with her husband "Rez Dog Clothing Company" founder and CEO, Keith DeHaas, Standing Rock Lakota Sioux. The calendar features 12 of the hottest women in Indian country attired in various swim wear and Rez Dog apparel. The beautiful and dynamic Indian models represent 12 different Tribes from across the United States. These bright and talented Native American women are our stars of tomorrow. Ampah DeHaas – Standing Rock Lakota Sioux - Ampah DeHaas is a Lakota from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in Fort Yates, North Dakota. The youngest of six children, she was born in Scottsdale, AZ and grew up in AZ and ND. Ampah lives in Bismarck, ND where she is working for a marketing firm and studying Health Information. She is looking forward to becoming a consultant for the health care profession. Ampah enjoys hanging out with her friends, horseback riding, drawing, reading and dancing. Meredith Koenig – Saginaw Chippewa - Meredith Koenig is a Saginaw Chippewa from Mount Pleasant, Michigan is a veteran of numerous beauty pageants. Meredith enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family and competing in beauty pageants. Her future plans are to pursue a career in the entertainment industry as an actress, model and make-up artist. Toni Lee Tsatoke – Kiowa - Toni Lee Tsatoke is a proud member of the Kiowa Tribe of Carnegie, Oklahoma. She is a graduate from Haskell Indian Nations University with a degree in Education, and is currently pursuing a masters degree in Educational Administration at the University of Oklahoma. Toni enjoys traveling, dancing at pow-wows, meeting new people and spending time with family. Toni also worked as the production assistant on "The Girls of Rez Dog Clothing Company 2004 - American Indian Beauties" calendar shoot in Colorado. Michelle Bowman – Akimel O’Odham - Michell Bowman is an Akimel O’Odham from Gila River Indian Community in Arizona. She also is a veteran of the US Navy. She is currently pursuing a degree in Business/Marketing at the University of Phoenix and aspires to complete an MBA. Michelle is a member of the Gila River Women Veterans. Her interests include music, art, history, traveling, reading, hiking, physical fitness and sports. Bobbi Dorchester – Navajo / Yavapai - Bobbi Dorchester is a Ft. McDowell Reservation Yavapai and Navajo. She resides in Gilbert, Arizona. Bobbi enjoys running, basketball, dancing and cars. Rachael Shelley – Winnebago / Omaha - Rachael Shelly is from Lawrence, Kansas and is Winnebago and Omaha. Rachael has attended Haskell Indian Nations University. She is a flight attendant for Delta Airlines and is pursuing her degree work in Aeronautical Science and her goal to one day be a pilot for a major airline. Rachael's interests include traveling, playing soccer, reading, working out and going to pow-wows. Lateachia Pemma – Potawatomi / Ho Chunk - Lateachia Pemma is a Potawatomi and Ho Chunk from Wabeno, Wisconsin, and is a former Miss Potawatomi Nation. She attended Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. Lateachia is a fancy shawl dancer and has been pow-wow dancing since she was 5 years old. Her interests also include choir, softball, volleyball, and one of her aspirations is to eventually become Miss Indian World. Lateachia now makes Canada her home. LivA’ndrea Knoki – Navajo - LivA'ndrea Knoki is Navajo from Tempe, Arizona. She is a senior philosophy major at Arizona State University. LivA'ndrea plans to attend law school, and is currently working at a Phoenix, AZ law firm as a legal secretary. Liv is a member of the Arizona Chuan Fa Society, is a Humane Society volunteer and is an avid NASCAR fan. Liv is one of the most sought after Native American models today and graces the cover of this 2003 calendar. Rez Dog American Indian Beauties calendar model LivA'ndrea Knoki (Cover Model 2003 / August 2003) is starring in the feature film "5th World." The story revolves around two young Navajo students as they travel back to the reservation from college. During the journey they discover common interests, roots, and a growing mutual attraction. The movie most recently screened at the Cherokee Film Festival October 12-15. This film is directed by Blackhorse Lowe in his feature debut. Liv also appeared in 2003 in his film short "Shush." Both films have played at the Sundance Film Festival. Adoesha Bennett - Creek / Pawnee / Dine - Adoesha Bennett is from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She studies theatre at Haskell Indian Nations University and enjoys touring and performing with Native American productions. Adoesha enjoys working out daily, acting, spending time with her family and hiking. One of her goals is to become a member of the Screen Actor's Guild and pursue an entertainment career. Teresa A. Randall – Lakota Sioux - Teresa Randall is Lakota Sioux and makes her home in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Her parents are originally from the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota, and both are Lakota. She is currently attending school to prepare for her Real Estate license. Teresa loves extreme sports, and her interests include dancing, beading, hiking, camping and hunting. Angye Tilley – Muscogee Creek / Seminole - Angye Tilley is Creek and Seminole from Bristow, Oklahoma and is a senior Business major at the University of Oklahoma. She is Gates scholar, McNair scholar and on the Dean’s Honor Roll. Angye is a member of the Gamma Delta Pi Sorority, the first Native American sisterhood at OU. In school she was involved in the American Indian Student Association and enjoys playing basketball, reading, sleeping, traveling and watching World Wrestling Entertainment. Angye currently works in marketing for an Indian owned company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shan Baldwin – Navajo - Shan Baldwin is Navajo and originally from Monument Valley, Utah. Shan now makes her home in Tucson, Arizona where she attends Pima College majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Foreign Languages. Shan recently was named Mrs. Tuscan and is highly sought after as a Native American model. Shan enjoys outdoor sports and telling stories through her Navajo jewelry and keeping her family close.
July 28-31, 2002 the models were photographed by Mohawk photographer Leslie Timmerman on the rocks, waterfalls and the beaches of sparkling Lake Tahoe. "The mountains and lake made the perfect backdrop for our beauties," states Keith DeHaas. "This calendar has been in the works for some time and we are pleased to have the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma sponsor this year’s calendar. We hope this calendar becomes like the ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition’ of Indian Country." Accommodations for the photo shoot were provided by hotel sponsor the luxurious Tahoe Seasons Resort 1-800-540-4874 and the MS Dixie II Paddle Wheeler hosted the models on a cruise of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay. "The Girls of Rez Dog Clothing Company 2003" calendar represents the modern Native American woman as light-hearted, fun and sexy. The calendars are on sale now and will be available at pow-wows, Native American gift shops and the "Rez Dog Clothing Company" website. Throughout 2003 the models appeared live at the "Rez Dog Clothing Company" booth at numerous pow-wows, conferences and other events to autograph the calendars and to personally meet and greet their friends and fans. One of our models had a starring role in a movie, two of our models have been asked to read and audition for Indian director Chris Eyre, one of our girls was asked to audition for a role in a Canadian film and several of our models have been interviewed on their local Television stations. Four of our models were featured in an expose on the calendar with the American Indian Cable Network and 8 of our 12 models have accepted numerous additional modeling jobs, as a direct result of their calendar appearance. Three of our models appeared at the Native American Music Awards and three of our girls modeled at the Grammy's. Look for two of our calendar models modeling various fashions in July's Native Peoples Magazine. Some of our Press Two companies enter pin-up model market NORMAN, Okla. -- In swimsuits or buckskins, the pin-up model is coming to Indian country. Two separate companies are launching calendars featuring native ladies selected after months of auditioning. Their approaches differ markedly. The pin-ups in "Women of the Earth" wear traditional clothing in demure poses. Rez Dog Clothing Company is going for the "classy sexy" look, a la the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
